Amazon Prime members will now be able to get GrubHub Plus free delivery for a year. YPulse’s cooking and diets report data shows 53% of Gen Z prefers to order delivery/takeout over cooking at home, and Amazon is hoping to entice them. The service, which would typically cost users $9.99 a month, will now be free for Prime members who order delivery for food items over $12. Amazon attempted their own delivery/takeout in the past, but it didn’t prove successful, especially when young consumers have already been using more popular apps like DoorDash, UberEats, and of course GrubHub. But it seems consumers are not utilizing these services as much as they were during lockdowns, leaving GrubHub in need of a boost. Amazon was ready to stake their claim and their partnership is hoping to direct consumer attention back to food delivery, which could appeal to Gen Z. (NYT, AdAge)
