New socially conscious Care Bear toys are appealing to today’s kids (and their Millennial parents). The Care Bears have always been about teaching kindness, but in the last year the brand has been launching a new “socially conscious, inclusivity-themed messaging.” Their new Togetherness Bear, which launched during Pride Month last year, has become a best-seller, and the top-performing Care Bear in both 2021 and 2022. With rainbow tie-dye fur, no two of the toys are alike, and according to the brand the design is meant to “celebrate how each person is different.” They also report that feedback about the character has been overwhelmingly positive: “We’ve had people reach out [on social media] that have disabilities, who come from blended families and who were adopted, and they all felt like this bear stood for them and their individuality.” (Kidscreen)
