Millennial “watchdog moms” are using their TikTok accounts to help keep minors safe from abuse.

Jun 30 2022

Millennial “watchdog moms” are using their TikTok accounts to help keep minors safe from abuse. Millennials grew up on the internet, and now as parents they have plenty of knowledge to share–and some are taking to Gen Z’s favorite platform to spread the word about “digital dangers.” Accounts like @mom.uncharted and @riadaaraes have earned millions of views and hundreds of thousands of followers thanks to their online safety-focused content educating viewers on issues like grooming, the dark web, oversharing, inappropriate videos, and more. They often get tags and comments from young viewers sharing their own experiences and asking questions about safety. These “watchdog mom” influencers chat regularly to share stories and advice, and “work to get problematic content taken offline.” YPulse’s data shows that 63% of Millennial moms are using TikTok, and clearly they’re working to keep the platform, and the internet, safe for their own kids.
