Mattel is partnering with Cryptoys to turn its iconic toys into playable avatars. YPulse’s Buying Into Crypto and NFTs trend research found that 58% of Millennial parents would buy an NFT for their child and brands are racing to create them. Hot Wheels already launched an NFT collection earlier this year, but to expand its footprint in the metaverse, Mattel is collaborating with Cryptoys, a platform for “playable NFTs,” to turn its popular toys (like Barbie, Polly Pocket, and Thomas the Tank Engine) into playable avatars. Developed by OnChain Studios and described as “Zynga of Web3,” the avatars will be sold as NFTs and debut on Crpytoys’ metaverse. The platform is built on a “carbon-efficient Flow blockchain,” which lets NFTs mobilize “in an array of phone, tablet, or desktop mini-games.” Mattel is expecting the games to be “similar to classic web games,” which include arcade-style, carnival-style, puzzles, and infinity-runners.
