TikTok is launching its first subscription based comedy series with Pearpop, opening more money-making opportunities for creators. Last month, YPulse reported that TikTok unveiled the Live monthly subscription tool for creators on an invitation-only basis. Now creator Jericho Mencke and “social media collaboration company” Pearpop are using the feature to launch Finding Jericho, an eight-part comedy docuseries that users will be able to subscribe to for $4.99 per season. The show will air two nights a week during the month of June on TikTok Live. In each 30-minute episode, “Mencke will interview celebrities and creators, including Griffin Johnson, Sloane Veronico and Wasil Daoud” to explore unconventional topics and create comedic skits. According to Pearpop, the series takes inspiration from Borat, Nathan For You, and The Eric Andre Show. The LIVE subscription tool could give creators a more direct way of monetizing their content–if users embrace it. (Engadget, TechCrunch)
