Digital designers are making millions in the metaverse, and luxury brands are tapping their talent. Dressing avatars in online platforms is becoming as important as the games they participate in, and fashion designers in the metaverse are turning out huge sales with digital fashion gurus forging virtual clothes businesses in Roblox, Fortnite, and Spatial. One brand, Blueberry, created by Mishi McDuff, is expected to hit “$1.8 million in sales this year” and worked with luxury brand Jonathan Simkhai on a collection for Metaverse Fashion Week. Another brand, Republique, “designs its own virtual collections for fashion brands such as Coach, Adidas, Axel Arigato and Ester Manas to help them enter gaming, NFTs and Web3.” These collaborations are showing luxury brands that fashion in the metaverse (especially in-app purchases) is booming, and YPulse data shows 67% of 13-39-year-olds who play virtual world games say seeing other avatars in branded clothing makes them want to wear that brand.
