College enrollment rates are dropping dramatically, as Gen Z questions the value of a college education.

May 27 2022

College enrollment rates are dropping dramatically, as Gen Z questions the value of a college education. According to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, “662,000 fewer students enrolled in undergraduate programs in spring 2022 than a year earlier,” suggesting that there is a shift in attitudes taking place when it comes to earning a degree. It’s more than just the pandemic that’s stopping Gen Z, students are facing the prospect of loan debt that is simply not ideal in the face of rising inflation rates. At the same time, higher education is facing a number of other issues they have barely begun to address, including slavery ties, admissions scandals, hiring jobs with no pay, and rising tuition. YPulse’s Education report found that 62% of Gen Z say they don’t need a college degree to be successful.
