ComplexLand is hosting its third annual virtual event, going all in on shopping in the metaverse. Complex, which was acquired by BuzzFeed last year, is famed for their editorial focus on streetwear and sneaker culture and they’re taking part in what YPulse predicted: a “metaverse evolution.” They’ve been pushing into the metaverse with the videogame-like event ComplexLand, which was started as the digital alternative to the live ComplexCon that was canceled during the pandemic. But now, the annual virtual experience is standing on its own, with the brand envisioning it as a “shopping destination” where digital visitors can “experience that drop culture in a cool way.” This year, computer-generated influencer Lil Miquela will be “curator of NFTs,” while comedian and DJ Kerwin Frost will co-host at the event where users will be able to create a custom avatar and peruse “various product drops, mini-games and influencer-led experiences.” This “digital mall” will also “serve as a test lab for various metaverse concepts,” by both Complex and their brand sponsors.
