Mattel’s Barbie is launching more diverse and inclusive dolls, including one with a hearing aid and another inspired by fashion designer Vera Wang.

Mattel’s Barbie is launching more diverse and inclusive dolls, including one with a hearing aid and another inspired by fashion designer Vera Wang. YPulse’s Representation in Action trend research found that more than half of Millennial parents have purchased a toy for their child to teach them about diversity. Mattel announced they would be adding new dolls to its Fashionistas line and released 175 looks, including dolls with “a variety of skin tones, eye colors, hair colors and textures, body types, disabilities, and fashions.” The collection will debut in June, and some of the featured dolls in the lineup include a Barbie doll with a prosthetic leg, a Barbie doll with a hearing aid, and a Ken doll with vitiligo (a condition in which skin loses its pigment cells). Meanwhile, Mattel also created a doll to celebrate fashion designer Vera Wang, who has created looks for Barbie over the years, as part of its Tribute series. According to Wang: “Barbie is the ultimate icon, and she represents all of us, and through the decades, she has continued to evolve, to every changing standard of women while reflecting huge shifts in our society, if not the world.” (AxiosHypebae)
