Half of Millennial moms are the primary income earners of their family, and are feeling the stress of balancing work and home.

May 05 2022

Half of Millennial moms are the primary income earners of their family, and are feeling the stress of balancing work and home. YPulse research found that young women have been especially impacted by the pandemic. According to Motherly’s annual State of Motherhood survey, which surveyed 17,000 Gen Z and Millennial moms in the U.S., 47% of moms are the primary income earners and while they’re supporting their families financially, they’re also the ones who are still taking care of much of the household work. Fifty percent of moms who are breadwinners still handle a majority of the household chores—up from 40% five years ago. Meanwhile, women have left the workforce at “twice the rate” of men, with 26% of moms citing childcare issues as the top reason they left or quit their jobs in the last year. Moms still in the workforce have become more pessimistic during COVID: 23% don’t think it’s possible to combine motherhood and working (up 17% from last year). Moms in 2022 are also 9% less likely to say they want another child compared to last year. (Mother.ly)
