Modern Blk Girl wants to teach Black Gen Z girls about financial literacy.

Apr 26 2022

Modern Blk Girl wants to teach Black Gen Z girls about financial literacy. According to a 2021 study by TIAA, half of Americans couldn’t answer more than 50% of their financial literacy quiz, and the number jumps to two-thirds for Gen Z. YPulse’s Self-Taught trend research found that 54% of 13-20-year-old consumers and 64% of Black young consumers wished they learned more about personal finance in school. A few years ago, Tiffany James founded Modern Blk Grl to specifically help Black Gen Z. Her venture initially started as an audio room on Clubhouse and has grown into an online community with over 100,000 followers. As part of Modern Blk Girl, James created Teen University, a 30-day course designed to teach 14-19-year-olds about investing. She says: “A lot of times you pick a profession based on money, especially if you are a minority. Investing can help someone go to college and figure out what they really want to do, what gets them excited and piques their interest.” (Fast Company)
