Thanks to a grant from Epic Games, Sesame Street is getting the VR treatment.

Apr 07 2022

Thanks to a grant from Epic Games, Sesame Street is getting the VR treatment. The company recently awarded $150,000 through its MegaGrants program to Sesame Workshop, to create a digital version of its iconic TV set that includes familiar settings such as the iconic 123 Sesame Street brownstone, Oscar’s trash can, and Big Bird’s nest. The nonprofit will use Epic Games’ Unreal Engine real-time rendering tech “to spin that replica out into extended-reality content, such as a 360-degree immersive VR experience that lets kids literally walk down Sesame Street.” Meanwhile, the grant will also be used to invest in the future of interactive projects, including a range of games and animated storybooks on Amazon’s new projector and video-calling device, Amazon Glow. A surprising 8% of Millennial parents tell YPulse they have given their kids a VR headset. (Kidscreen)
