Coca-Cola unveiled a pixel-flavored drink and Fortnite island to appeal to young gamers. The second drink to come out of the beverage company’s experimental Creations platform is Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte, a limited edition soft drink meant to evoke the flavor of pixels. Coca-Cola partnered with gaming organization PWR to create a Pixel Point Island in Fortnite to promote the new drink and engage with young gamers. Players can hunt for hidden treasures, play mini-games, participate in a race through bubbles, play a castle defense game, and more inside the Tron-like Pixel Point Island. The pixel-flavored soda’s packaging will be available to real-world consumers next month and features a scannable label linking to an AR game. Coca-Cola’s Creations platform shows how the beverage company is focusing on digital and real-world experiences to promote its new beverages to a new generation rather than relying on months-long media campaigns. YPulse’s Metaverse trend research shows 44% of Gen Z and 32% of Millennials play Fortnite. (Marketing Dive)
