Almost half of young workers would rather be unemployed than stuck in a job that makes them unhappy.

Apr 05 2022

Almost half of young workers would rather be unemployed than stuck in a job that makes them unhappy. According to a global Randstad study of 35,000 workers across 34 markets, nearly two in four Gen Z and Millennial employees say they would prefer being unemployed to being stuck in a job they didn’t like. Fifty-six percent of Gen Z and 55% of Millennials say they would leave their job if it interfered with their personal lives, while almost half of Gen Z and Millennials say they don’t want to work at a company that doesn’t share their values on social and environmental issues and diversity and inclusion. The majority of workers surveyed say the ability to work from anywhere is important to them, though 53% say they don’t have that flexibility in their current roles. YPulse’s finance / spending monitor research found that 35% of young people have left their jobs in the past year (up 10% since August 2021), and flexibility will only become more important to young workers in a post-pandemic work world.
