DeepWell Digital Therapeutics wants to make video games that double as treatment for conditions like depression and ADHD. The founder of Devolver Digital Mike Wilson is teaming with medical device expert Ryan Douglas to launch DeepWell Digital Therapeutics, a video game company focused on creating engaging video games, that are then used to treat health conditions. Research already shows that video game-based tools can be successful in treating conditions like depression and ADHD, and the FDA approved the first prescription video game to treat kids with ADHD in 2020. DeepWell Digital Therapeutics currently has one project in development to launch early next year, with plans to go directly through the FDA as opposed to marketing the games as “wellness” products. YPulse’s gaming survey shows over half of young consumers say it’s appropriate for video games to be used to help with both physical and mental health. (The Verge)
