Twitter’s 2022 trend report offers a guide to all brands wanting to authentically connect with the platform’s community.

Twitter’s 2022 trend report offers a guide to all brands wanting to authentically connect with the platform’s community. Three major conversations that took place on Twitter in 2021 include The Great Restoration, Fan-Built Worlds, and Finance Goes Social. Starting with The Great Restoration, Twitter saw a 64% YoY increase in terms like “restoring,” “rebalancing,” and “greenwashing,” signaling that users’ environmental concerns are at an all-time high and wellness initiatives can be used to tap into what makes them feel whole. Fandoms are also strong according to Twitter, with the platform noting, “Fans no longer just follow, they’re calling the shots and creating worlds they want to be part of.” Lastly, finance tips / knowledge are no longer happening behind closed doors: Twitter reports 17 times more tweets about NFTs in 2021 than about working from home, and growth of topics like DApps (decentralized applications), decentralized exchanges, and stablecoin. Though Twitter hasn’t been as popular as TikTok or Instagram among young consumers, the social platform recently hired Michael Sayman (a former leader at Facebook and Google) to work on product innovation aimed at young adults while leaning into Twitter’s advantage of users not having the pressure to perform on camera in order to participate in the social platform’s community.
