Looking “messy” is in.

Mar 03 2022

Looking “messy” is in. YPulse told you that loud beauty will be a defining makeup trend of 2022. As young people experiment with bold makeup looks, anti-perfectionist makeup is emerging as consumers defy perfectionism by embracing play. Celebrities and makeup icons are already embracing the “messy” makeup look: Julia Fox has flaunted abstract smudged liner and Euphoria makeup artist Donni Davy took a more free-form version to the show’s season two makeup looks with single swipes of vibrant eyeshadow. Messy glam doesn’t fit into one category—it can be achieved through bold eyeshadow that stretches beyond the lid or brows that reject staying inside the lines. As one makeup expert puts it, “People are getting sick of a one-size-fits-all, cookie cutter makeup. Everyone is starting to look the same. People are sick of the rules and being confined, and they want something fresh, easy, and real.” (Dazed)
