Finances, job security, and career aspirations are taking a toll on young workers’ mental health.

Feb 04 2022

Finances, job security, and career aspirations are taking a toll on young workers’ mental health. According to a Bain & Company survey of 20,000 workers in 10 countries, 61% of workers under 35-years-old say they’re most concerned about finances, job security, and failing to meet their career goals in the next decade, compared to only 40% of workers over 35-years-old. Bain’s report notes that “slowing economic growth, rising inequality, and declining housing affordability,” are impacting their concern, and the research found younger employees from advanced economies may be earning less than generations before them did at their age. Still, the majority of young workers also say they’re “optimistic that their lives would be better five to 10 years from now,” but for now, worries about financial security are real for young employees.
