A bank in Thailand released a satirical ad that pokes fun at the brand race to the metaverse. Thailand-based First Choice teamed up with ad agency Leo Burnett Thailand on a spot that’s set in the metaverse where two popular Thai presenters (Mario and Pattie) make their avatar debut to promote First Choice’s credit cards. During the shoot, the bank’s marketing team keeps tweaking Mario’s and Pattie’s lingo to be more on-trend with young people, the avatars start glitching, and the concept becomes more absurd and confusing—providing some satirical commentary on how marketers are racing to enter the metaverse without understanding it. The ad follows a “NFT Credit Card ART Collaboration” that First Choice recently released, and the brand notes, “As a credit card brand for the young generation, First Choice is jumping on the Metaverse trend with a unique vision for brand communications and a funny, witty execution.” (Adweek)
