Batgirl has cast Ivory Aquino to portray the first trans character in a DC Comics live-action film adaption. We told you that young people want more diverse and inclusive leads to be in superhero movies—and DC Films and HBO Max recently announced that they officially cast Filipino trans actress Ivory Aquino, alongside Leslie Grace, to portray Alysia Yeoh in the upcoming Batgirl film adaption. Yeoh will be the first openly trans character in a DC live action film, and will play Batgirl’s roommate and best friend. In the last year, DC confirmed Superman’s and Robin’s bisexual identities in upcoming comic books, which shows their continued efforts to support the LGBTQ+ community. (NYLON)
