Black-owned alcohol brands are “changing the drinks space” and making it more inclusive by giving back to their respective communities.

Black-owned alcohol brands are “changing the drinks space” and making it more inclusive by giving back to their respective communities. YPulse’s nightlife and drinking research shows that young Black consumers enjoy drinking—but the drinks industry in the U.S. is still “painfully White.” But in recent years, Black-owned breweries, wineries, and distillers are emerging and “working to reshape their respective industries more than ever before.” Texas-based Weathered Souls Brewing Co. has a signature stout beer called Black is Beautiful and offers it to other brewers as long as they give 100% of proceeds to local organizations supporting equality, inclusion, and social justice reform; McBride Sisters Collection created The SHE CAN Fund awards scholarships to “close the gender and race gap in wine production”; Chris Montana’s Du Nord Craft Spirits founded the Du Nord Foundation following the death of George Floyd to help BIPOC business owners and address racial inequities in the Twin Cities; Crown & Hops Brewing Co. is creating family-friendly spaces and providing economic growth for communities of color in  Inglewood; Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey pledged a 50-million-dollar fund to invest in minority-founded spirit brands to mark the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa massacre; Black Momma Vodka used their Long Island distillery to produce hand sanitizer in 2020 during the shortage; and Brough Brothers is attempting to infuse jobs and bring in tourism (for distillery tours) in West Louisville.
