Instagram is testing a paid subscription feature. The social media platform recently rolled out the feature to a small group of U.S. content creators, allowing them to receive payment from followers in exchange for exclusive content on Instagram Live and Stories. During the test launch, creators have eight different monthly price tiers they can choose from: $0.99, $1.99, $2.99, $4.99, $9.99, $19.99, $49.99, or $99.99 (Instagram says it won’t take a cut of creators’ revenue until at least 2023). Creators can host live streams and share disappearing posts via Stories to their paid subscribers, as well as see badges next to the names of their paid followers. Meanwhile, Instagram also recently introduced a Remix tool, allowing any users to remix any video content on the app (not just Reels)—basically TikTok’s Duet tool but make it Instagram. YPulse told you how social media companies have been using payments to attract online creators to their platforms, and Instagram Subscriptions would allow content creators to get paid “in a way that is not attached to how much reach [they] get on any given post, which is inevitably going to go up and down over time.” (THR, TechCrunch)
