A new generation is falling in love with the Metropolitan Opera.

A new generation is falling in love with the Metropolitan Opera. As young consumers return to their pre-pandemic activities, New York’s young people in their twenties and thirties have discovered a newfound love at the Metropolitan Opera. Part of the draw stems from the institution’s Fridays Under 40 program, which offers discounted prices for people under 40-years-old, and some are simply returning because they couldn’t enjoy live shows when art centers were shut down at the height of COVID-19. Others are using the opera experience as an excuse to dress up or to cross it off their NYC can’t-miss list. The pandemic made people (especially New York’s youth) more aware of the mortality of the things they love, and returning to the city’s arts institutions is one way they’re enjoying their post-vaccine lives.
