Trucker hats from Bass Pro Shops are a fashion statement now—even among young people who don’t fish or hunt. Yes, 2000s-era fashion is making a comeback, and one thing that is (surprisingly) catching the eye of young consumers are $6 mesh trucker hats from Bass Pro Shops. According to Gean Pierre Pereyra, a 23-year-old living in L.A., he’s drawn to the hat because “it comes off as masculine,” and he sees a lot of people wearing them around Southern California—despite not being the outdoorsy, fishing / hunting type. The hats are all over TikTok too, according to 28-year-old John Wright: “On TikTok, it’s all you see. It’s every different color hat…you see the trucker hat everywhere.” For some, the hats are nostalgic—in a personal and pop cultural sense—and for others, a cheap(er) take on trucker hat fashion that Von Dutch and Ed Hardy made popular in the ‘00s. Currently, multiple colors of the classic logoed mesh trucker hats are sold out online, while resellers on eBay are listing the hats for $20 each. (WSJ)
