FaZe Clan and McDonald’s are highlighting diverse gamers in a series of upcoming livestreams. The two groups announced in August that they were collaborating to highlight diversity and inclusivity in the gaming space—and to keep the initiative going, their new “Spotlight” campaign will focus on elevating diverse voices in gaming and feature FaZe gaming streamers, FaZe Swagg and FaZe JSmooth, who will talk about what being a Black gamer means to them. The two members will host three livestream events to connect with other diverse and emerging streamers and promote the guest streamers in their own fan bases and communities. According to FaZe Clan CEO Lee Trink: “The idea is a creative collaboration born out of conversations between the teams at FaZe and McDonald’s, with the goal of shining a light on aspiring, diverse gamers from the FaZe Clan and Nuke Squad communities. We hope it opens doors for up-and-coming talent, inspiring and shaping the future generation of gamers.” YPulse’s gaming research found that while the majority of BIPOC young people say they are gamers, nearly half think gaming culture is not inclusive enough.
