Sustainable gift-giving and gift wrapping is becoming more of a priority this year.

Nov 30 2021

Sustainable gift-giving and gift wrapping is becoming more of a priority this year. According to an Accenture survey, one in three shoppers say they plan to forgo traditional wrapping paper this holiday for environmental reasons. Homemade and secondhand gifts are also becoming more popular, with a quarter of consumers planning to buy materials to make their own gifts and 37% saying they’re likely going to be shopping secondhand stores. Shoppers are in a “different frame of mind” after spending so much time at home the past year and a half, making them think more about how their purchases impact the environment. Etsy reported that searches for environmentally and eco-friendly items are up 28% this year compared to 2020, while searches for eco-friendly, sustainable, and biodegradable gifts are up 48% compared to last year. Meanwhile, Pinterest searches for sustainable Christmas decorations were up 50% in October 2021 compared with the same time last year. YPulse’s holiday shopping plans research shows 66% of young holiday shoppers say they want to buy more gifts with social good components this year. (CNBC)
