As Instagram content shifts to Reels, momfluencers are needing to adjust. Instagram has been pushing its TikTok-esque looped video tool to keep up with the competition, and the secretive algorithm of the app has been favoring video content. But for some moms who have created an influencer career through static, curated images of themselves and their family life, the switch is an intimidating challenge. It’s not easy to communicate glossy perfection via video, (or use the ubiquitous letterboards in them) and most Insta-moms aren’t comedians, so creating the kind of funny clip that gains engagement on Reels is no easy feat. Still, they’re finding they must “adopt video, or be passed over by the algorithm.” (Slate)
