Holiday shoppers are relying on hybrid and secondhand shopping methods more than ever this year.

Nov 11 2021

Holiday shoppers are relying on hybrid and secondhand shopping methods more than ever this year. Thanks to the rise of social media commerce, online shopping experiences, and more, consumers have several shopping methods available to them these days—and they’re taking advantage of them all as they navigate holiday shopping amid ongoing supply chain disruptions. Secondhand items are gaining more ground as mainstream retailers like IKEA and ThredUp make it easier for consumers to upcycle their home goods and apparel—three in four consumers say they will likely buy used items this holiday according to Mercari. Adobe expects smartphones to account for 42% of overall revenue during the holiday season (up 5% from 2020) as platforms introduce holiday livestream shopping events and more tools to make shopping more seamless. YPulse’s 2021 holiday shopping data shows that the majority of young consumers are shopping equally online and in-store, and they’re spending more this year as they make up for missed holiday celebrations.
