College students voted at a historic rate in 2020.

Nov 01 2021

College students voted at a historic rate in 2020. According to a national college voting study recently published by Tufts University, the percentage of college students who voted in the 2020 presidential election increased 14 percentage points from 2016. The increase was most notable among voters 18-21-years-old, and young voters’ high turnout signals “that Gen Z is coming of age with real purpose,” notes John Della Volpe, director of polling at the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics. Last year, young people thought up creative ways to get their peers to vote by organizing TikTok houses, video gaming live streams, and more, and the events of 2020 empowered them to show up to the polls at a record rate.
