Nonbinary characters are becoming more common in childrens’ entertainment.

Sep 30 2021

Nonbinary characters are becoming more common in childrens’ entertainment. YPulse’s Gender Blur trend research found that a third of Millennial parents wish they could find less gendered entertainment content for their kids, and the industry is responding. Characters that don’t conform to gender norms are appearing in children’s entertainment more often. Take “Gonzo-rella,” the alter-ego of Gonzo on the new Muppet Babies show on Disney+, who wears a dress to a ball instead of a suit of armor, or the nonbinary dolphin who appeared in Blues Clues & You. These characters are making non-traditional gender expression more of a norm for the next generation.
