Young people are feeling the threat of climate change while losing trust in those in power to address the issue. YPulse’s sustainability research shows that 81% of Gen Z and 86% of Millennials worry about climate change. Now, a new study of 10,000 people ages 16-25-years-old across the world (who speak English or Portuguese) published in The Lancet signals that young people are losing trust in the government and authority figures to secure them a safe future. Those who are most vulnerable to climate change are experiencing mental health challenges, and the most common responses/coping mechanisms to climate change found in the study were dismissing the truth of what’s happening, ignoring the signs of danger, rationalizing the changes one sees, or simply denying the experiences of others. YPulse research found that climate change is one of the top 10 problems Gen Z and Millennials face today, and the majority agree (77%) it’s up to their generation to stop climate change from getting worse.
