Pepsi is “talking trash” with NFL stars to educate young consumers about sustainability dos and don’ts.

Sep 20 2021

Pepsi is “talking trash” with NFL stars to educate young consumers about sustainability dos and don’ts. As part of PepsiCo’s new pep+ initiative, the beverage brand is rolling out a “Pepsi Trash Talk” platform where NFL stars like Justin Herbert, Josh Allen, and Chase Claypool share tips for recycling the right way while breaking down the science behind why some packaging materials can/can’t be repurposed. An interactive game is also live on the platform where users control a Pepsi-branded recycling bin to try and catch falling waste. Pepsi plans to take the effort further with a “robust social media plan” while working with Deion Sanders (a.k.a. the “king of trash talk”) who will plug the initiative on his Barstool Sports show. Climate change is a top cause Gen Z and Millennials are worried about and want to see brands get involved in, and clearly Pepsi is trying to find the right campaign to appeal to their concerns.
