Robinhood is kicking off a nationwide college tour to strengthen its young user base. The digital broker is offering students who sign up for brokerage accounts using their school email address $15 to trade—plus the opportunity to win a $20,000 giveaway—on its nationwide tour visiting community colleges and historically Black colleges/universities. Robinhood’s user base already skews young with more than 3.8 million student customers (millions downloaded the app when GameStop’s stock soared earlier this year), and Robinhood’s Product Chief notes that the college tour is “meeting the next generation where they are” while making investing accessible to people who historically haven’t participated in the markets. Young people have started flocking to online communities like Finary (and subcultures on TikTok) to teach themselves about investing and personal finance, and Robinhood’s college tour could help the company make one-on-one connections with new and existing young investors.
