Americans are facing a “loneliness epidemic.” New research from the Survey Center on American Life suggests how the pandemic has impacted Americans’ feeling of belonging with “47% of Americans reporting having lost touch with at least a few friends over the past year.” Women were also found to be the most affected by quarantine with nearly 59% reporting they fell out of contact with at least a couple of friends. YPulse’s State of Mind trend research found that 53% of Gen Z say they’ve felt lonelier because of COVID-19, and their top sources of community have been via social media groups, video games, work, and school. Americans are also choosing to marry later in life according to the study, and YPulse’s Finding Love Post-COVID trend research found that stalled love lives could lead to a renewed interest in dating with 53% of 18+ singles saying they’ll be dating much more often once COVID-19 is over.
