Gen Z women in China are going after niche luxury shoe brands.

Jul 26 2021

Gen Z women in China are going after niche luxury shoe brands. Gianvito Rossi, Rene Caovilla, Aquazzura, and Nicholas Kirkwood are just a few of the high-end footwear brands young women in China are wearing these days to maintain their unique styles. Compared to established designer brands like Christian Louboutin or Jimmy Choo, niche luxury shoe brands represent individuality for China’s Gen Z. According to Gianvito Rossi, young Chinese women “do not want to buy hot-selling products, but rather, low-key luxury products,” as they no longer want to be mixed into the category of Chinese fashionistas who all wear the same brands. With Gen Z less interested in conforming to social norms, they’re looking for luxury footwear that helps them stand out according to a report from Bain & Co, and ecommerce activations are helping these “low-key luxury” brands stand out in the eyes of Gen Z shoppers.
