New and revamped makeup brands are bringing the “no-makeup” look to consumers with “melanin-rich skin.”

Jun 22 2021

New and revamped makeup brands are bringing the “no-makeup” look to consumers with “melanin-rich skin.” When it comes to skincare ingredient-infused items that offer the natural makeup look, options are still limited for Black and brown skin. Because of that, Diarrha N’Diaye. was inspired to launch Ami Colé, a clean makeup brand that makes products catering to those with “melanin-rich skin.” The line’s first products, which will be available on Thirteen Lune, are inspired by her Senegalese background, and will include a skin-enhancing tint, a lightweight “blur effect” base product in six flexible shades, a translucent highlighter that adds a “dewy glow” to skin, and lip oils. Meanwhile, MAC Cosmetics rebranded its Studio Face and Body foundation to Studio Radiance in April to offer a more “lighter feel” and target younger consumers as well as Asian consumers “for whom the glowy skin trend is popular across all demos.” YPulse’s Representation in Action research found the majority of young consumers have started buying from a brand because they are inclusive or diverse.
