Remote learning has been especially difficult for BIPOC college students. According to a report from Every Learner Everywhere and GlobalMindED that surveyed a group of 102 students from 47 colleges across 22 states, 100% of BIPOC respondents cited that they had two or more barriers hampering their distanced learning, such as lack of interact access, lack of a focused learning environment, no personal devices, health concerns, unemployment, language barriers, learning from their bedrooms, or managing younger siblings. One hundred percent also reported absent or unavailable campus support systems beyond the teacher. Meanwhile, 80% disapproved of the online learning experience, citing “major inconsistency in faculty ability to educate using technology tools and practices,” and 70% reported relying on peer support compared to more formal support systems.
