TikTok is opening a transparency center in Europe to reassure wary consumers that their data is safe.

Jun 16 2021

TikTok is opening a transparency center in Europe to reassure wary consumers that their data is safe. YPulse has been tracking young consumers’ digital privacy concerns, and found that Gen Z and Millennials are feeling more vulnerable than ever about their privacy online—and are paying more attention to where their data is going. Their caution is driven in part by massive data privacy scandals that have plagued the online platforms young people frequent the most over the past few years, which has given many Millennials and Gen Zs first-hand experience with personal data breaches. TikTok itself has faced scrutiny over its content policies and ownership structure as its popularity has grown. While concerns in the U.S. have largely centered on the risk of censorship and the security of user data, in Europe, which tauts some of the strictest data protection laws in the world, consumers and lawmakers alike are more focused on child safety and data privacy. The transparency center will start operating virtually, but TikTok plans to open a physical center in Ireland in 2022. (TechCrunch)
