The French government is giving young people €300 to spend on anything cultural.

Jun 16 2021

The French government is giving young people €300 to spend on anything cultural. On TikTok, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the rollout of Culture Pass, a program to fund cultural activities for 18-year-olds across the country. The passes are activated through an app, which gives them access to €300 to spend over the course of two years on museum tickets, art supplies, books, or even streaming services and video games. Culture Pass has been undergoing test rollouts for the past two years and will extend to all high schoolers in 2022. The pass also prioritizes French creative businesses, such as Deezer, France’s version of Spotify. So far the initiative has been a success. In the test, 73% of users reported discovering new cultural activities and 32% went to the museum for the first time this year. To top it off, young people ordered more books than video games.
