The Lavender Book is a new app that helps LGBTQ+ people of color find safe spaces. For decades, the Green Book served as a way for Black Americans to “safely navigate a violently segregated country.” Now, a newly launched crowd-sourced app by the National Black Justice Coalition and Out In Tech wants to serve a similar purpose by recording safe spaces for LGBTQ+ people of color. The Lavender Book allows users to narrow down places through various filters, like whether ASL is spoken, if gender-neutral restrooms are available, or if there’s a wheelchair ramp on site. According to the NBJC executive director, they created the platform to serve the BIPOC LGBTQ+ community “in a time where anti-discrimation efforts and safety cannot be taken for granted.” (CNN)
