Dating apps are encouraging more young people to get vaccinated. Vaccines are becoming a status symbol on dating apps as Tinder, Bumble, OkCupid, Match, and more add badges to users’ profiles to show a person’s vaccine status, and offer perks to those who are already #vaxxed. The efforts are part of a new partnership with the White House to reach the goal of vaccinating 70% of adults (with one dose) by July 4. Tinder is giving free access to premium content like “Super Likes” to vaccinated users, and vaxxed OkCupid users will get a free “boost” on their profiles and be featured in the app’s “Vaccinated Stack,” letting users select profiles based on certain categories. According to data from OkCupid, use of the phrase “I’m vaccinated” increased over 1,400% in May compared to January, and their data also shows Gen Z and Millennials are more likely than Gen X to turn down a date with someone who isn’t vaccinated. Brands have been rolling out campaigns to encourage the COVID-19 vaccine, and the White House has also partnered with Uber, Lyft, Twitter, and Facebook to encourage vaccines. (Bloomberg, Mashable)
