| Sesame Workshop is launching new racial justice resources following the rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans. In the midst of the #StopAsianHate movement, the group is releasing the “ABCs of Racial Literacy,” a new resource that will focus on helping families celebrate their unique identities and give kids age-appropriate strategies on how to address questions regarding race and racism. In one of the videos, two Muppets help Elmo understand why their skin is brown by explaining what melanin is, while another clip stars Rosita’s mom helping her daughter cope with a racist encounter at the store. The content package is part of Sesame’s Coming Together program, which is designed to provide tools, spark conversations, and support children “as they grow into allies and advocates.” Since last year’s Black Lives Matter protests, kid shows like Sesame Street have been consistent in addressing racism and embracing diversity.
