Mar 23 2021

From “Granny chic” to feather boas, some surprising fashion aesthetics are trending. According to Trendalytics, cooped up consumers have a desire to get dressed up and show skin, and things like “second-skin silhouettes and ballet aesthetics have been serving as fashion inspo. Searches for ‘90s raver-style tops have been up 45% compared to last year. Consumers are also searching for “sheer layering pieces” such as organza trench coats, sheer maxi skirts, and mesh turtlenecks. Lyst reported that searches for “wrap-around tops” and “cardigans” increased 25% and 19%. “Tulle” is among the most popular keywords along with skirts and dresses, while “tutu-inspired frocks” are up 22% month-on-month. Thanks to the Grammys, viewers have been inspired by leather outfits with dresses going up 25% hours after Beyoncé wore one during the ceremony, while Lyst saw a 1,500% spike in feather boas after Harry Styles donned one during his performance. Meanwhile, Lyst has seen “granny chic” emerging as a trend as crocheted pieces have seen a 45% spike, while Trendalytics called out “crocheted bucket hats” as one of “the most in-demand styles.” (Sourcing JournalTODAY)
