Young shoppers are leading the shift to online retail. According to Shopify’s Future of Commerce 2021 study, 84% of global consumer respondents have shopped online since the pandemic started compared to 65% of those who have shopped in-store. When it comes to young consumers, 67% of 18-35-year-olds are shifting more of their spending to online shopping compared to pre-pandemic, versus 57% of 35-54-year-olds and 41% of 55-year-olds and up. Twenty-eight percent of shoppers younger than 35 said they bought things via social media compared to 20% of 35-54-year-olds and 8% of 55-year-olds and up. Meanwhile, YPulse’s Retail’s New Reality trend report found that 47% of 13-39-year-olds plan to continue shopping online more after COVID is over. (Chain Store Age)
