TikTok is reportedly launching an online shopping channel. As social shopping takes off, TikTok is allegedly planning “a major push” into ecommerce and has spoken with major advertisers about an “ambitious plan” to get into livestream shopping. According to insiders, the social app described the plan as “a version of TV shopping channels that would stream on mobile devices.” TikTok influencers like Charli D’Amelio would be tapped to pitch products, while viewers will be able to buy those products on the app. The move is being seen as a challenge against Facebook, who recently expanded their ecommerce offerings on the titular platform as well as Instagram’s new tools to make it easier for users to buy products on the platforms.
