A new crop of young musicians and creators are “unapologetically” finding “overnight success” on TikTok. Last year, a new class of influencers found fame on TikTok, and young musicians are hoping the app will be their key to making it big quick. According to TikTok’s first year-end music report, 176 different songs surpassed 1 billion video views in 2021, and five of them reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion are artists whose popularity skyrocketed because of the platform, and TikTok has become “the shortest route to a major label deal.” Singer-songwriter Nessa Barrett, pop-punk “revivalist” Jxdn, hip-hop artist Jufu, and R&B singer Tayler Holder are among the new young entertainers whose presence on TikTok landed fast music deals.
