Can Disney+ beat Netflix in the streaming wars? For the longest time, Netflix has been “the subscription streaming service to beat.” However, Disney+ has proven to be “a powerful siren,” gaining more than 86 million subscribers in the last year. Together with Hulu and ESPN+, Disney already has more than 137 million customers on SVOD globally. Their recent investor day unveiled the “blueprint” for this upcoming year’s offerings, which include several Star Wars and Marvel installments and Pixar and Disney-branded “eye candy” to come—which could earn them more users. YPulse’s media consumption report found that while Netflix is a top streaming platform among viewers, Disney+ is quickly gaining favor, and 34% percent of 13-39-year-olds are already Disney+ subscribers.
