From stress eating to healthy choices, food and drinks helped young consumers get through this year. According to the International Food Information Council, one in three consumers say they ate healthier in 2020—with those under 45-years-old most likely to make more healthier choices. However, eating habits of 19% of respondents became less healthy during the past year, and women were more likely than men to “tip toward indulgence.” More than one in five consumers admitted to stress eating during the pandemic, while one in four turned to comfort foods. Plenty of consumers turned to energy boosters with 28% drinking more caffeinated drinks and 22% drank more alcohol—with men and younger consumers more likely to imbibe. YPulse’s Comfort in the Kitchen report found that 45% of 13-39-year-olds ate more comfort foods since COVID started, while 31% reported eating healthier. (Food Dive)
