Teens and college kids are drinking less alcohol, and smoking more weed.

Nov 23 2020

Teens and college kids are drinking less alcohol, and smoking more weed. According to research from JAMA Pediatrics, while alcohol consumption is falling among 18-22-year-olds, marijuana use is “inching upward.” The number of young adults using both alcohol and marijuana is also rising, raising concerns in some health experts about “a future surge in substance abuse problems.” Data from the annual National Survey Drug Use and Health shows that the number of young adults who drank alcohol in the past year fell 8 percentage points from 2002 to 2018 among 18-22-year-olds, and 6 points among those not in college, while marijuana use rose 5 points for both—and teen alcohol drinking was down 14 percentage points.
