Teen content is getting “clean” for younger viewers. Original titles for younger audiences haven’t had a “theatrical draw” for years, but major streaming services are using more resources to attract “tens of millions” of those young viewers. Netflix has been releasing more “clean teen” films, with no sex, drugs, or violence, that feature teens but “speak to younger audiences, as well.” Meanwhile, Disney has been enlisting talent who previously worked on Disney Channel originals to churn out new series for Disney+. Much of the content that appears on both streamers is more diverse and highlights issues related to LGBTQ and body positivity. According to one showrunner: “Young people today are a lot more open-minded. That’s the world. That’s the audience.” (THR)
